Happy New Year!

In Feng Shui, each year has its own energy, based on the Five Elements: water, wood, fire, earth and metal. This year is symbolized as “Fire on Water” and is considered a period of conflict. After all, fire and water don’t mix.

Indeed, this is not likely to be a peaceful year. Where 2006 was associated with environmental interest and spiritual health, 2007 could see an increase in battles, explosions, political overthrows or health epidemics. However, under a tumultuous surface, a new beginning is taking root. The Pig represents winter, when new life is germinating beneath the earth. Also, we are currently in an auspicious 20 year feng shui cycle which began in 2004, one which will further support new beginnings. With a little courage and determination, we can see our way through to a successful year with new adventures and open skies ahead…

Let’s look at how the 2007 annual energy will affect you, and ways to ensure you take advantage of the good energy which awaits you in the year of the Pig:

2007 Feng Shui Recommendations for Your Home or Office

Feng Shui believes that each year the stronger and weaker areas in every building shifts slightly. Listed below are recommendations for each area of your space. To ensure that you take advantage of the positive energy of 2007, while reducing any potentially harmful aspects, place the suggested element, or colors, in the corresponding corners of your space:

EAST
Wonderful for celebrations, socializing and romance . Also very good for business and fame this year.

ADD: Healthy PLANTS. Best color is any shade of green.

SOUTHEAST
Great for romance and creative work such as writing, painting, etc.

ADD: WATER to enhance both relationships and creativity. Good colors are blue or black.

SOUTH
Very strong for money this year. But avoid fires in this area, as accidents are possible.

ADD: EARTH items such as crystals, ceramic, stone or marble items. Good colors are tan and yellow.

SOUTHWEST
Extremely abundant area this year! However, avoid doing construction in this part of your home.

ADD: No remedy needed, take advantage of this good energy for all activities. Nice colors are brown, yellow or tan.

WEST
Not good for creative work or romance in 2007.

ADD: A WATER feature such as a fountain, aquarium, or bowl of fresh water to strengthen this area. Best colors are blue or black.

NORTHWEST
This area is tricky in 2007. There’s a possibility for increased money, but also increased health problems. Take extra caution with health.

ADD: WATER to support wealth and health. Good colors are blue or black.

NORTH
Extremely good for career progress. New business ventures will especially benefit.

ADD: No element needed, but best colors are blue, white, and black.

NORTHEAST
Take extra caution around health and, if possible, avoid using this area for important activities or rooms (such as bedroom or living room).

ADD: a “MOVING” METAL element such as a windchime, mobile, or clock with swinging metal pendulum. Best colors are white, silver or gold.
